DES encourages the use of innovative technology to achieve better environmental performance. This applies to all areas that DES works in. DES participates in several inter-state forums to exchange information about innovative technologies and their uses among environmental agencies. Two of these efforts have received "Environmental Merit Awards" from USEPA Region 1, New England.
