The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) is committed to protecting human health and the environment, while making Superfund cleanups faster, fairer and more efficient.

This issue of Superfund Update describes how NHDES is continuing to actively work in addressing the problems at the twenty National Priorities List (NPL) sites in New Hampshire. Seventeen of the state's twenty NPL sites are now in the remedial action or cleanup phase. Two of the remaining sites are in the cleanup design phase, and one is in the investigation phase.

One other site, the Mohawk Tannery Site in Nashua, is also presented in this issue. The site has been proposed to the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency for listing on the NPL, but whether or not it will be listed is unknown at this time.
