PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT
Former Beebe Rubber Company Facility
20/22 Marshall Street, Nashua, New Hampshire
NHDES Site No. 199105038
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) will be hosting an informational meeting regarding the Remedial Action Plan (RAP) received by the DES for the former Beebe Rubber Company Facility located at 20/22 Marshall Street in Nashua, New Hampshire. The RAP was prepared as a requirement of the state’s Brownfields Covenant Program (RSA 147-F). The public information meeting will be held at 7 pm, Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the Nashua City Hall, Room 208.
Site investigations have identified the release of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) (primarily trichloroethylene (TCE)) to soil and groundwater in the vicinity of a former TCE aboveground storage tank, a former vapor degreaser and a former drum storage area. TCE was used from approximately 1968 to 1986 as a degreaser for metal filaments that were imbedded in various manufactured rubber products. Recommended remedial actions for addressing on-site contamination include: 1) in-situ soil vapor extraction and air sparging to address the chlorinated solvent source areas; 2) monitored natural attenuation of the chlorinated solvent plume under a groundwater management permit; and 3) vapor intrusion abatement measures to mitigate potential exposure pathways into future site buildings.
Additional site investigation work that addresses the delineation of the off-site groundwater contamination and soil gas plume is on-going. Based on the findings of this work, the RAP may need to be amended to address off-site impacts.
