2009 Training Workshops Offered for Volunteers Interested in River Monitoring

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Service’ (DES) Volunteer River Assessment Program (VRAP) is offering volunteer training for people interested in determining the health of their local or nearby river or stream. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend one of the Volunteer Training Workshops being offered from April to June. A schedule of the dates and training locations is provided below.

Individuals who attend an annual training workshop will receive an overview of the NH Volunteer River Assessment Program, background on data use, reporting, and water quality assessments, and a demonstration of monitoring protocols and sampling techniques. During the training, volunteers will have an opportunity for hands-on use of the VRAP equipment and receive instruction in the collection of samples for laboratory analysis. Topics will include a discussion of the importance of typical water quality monitoring parameters and applicable state standards, calibration and meter checks, quality assurance and quality control, sample collection for field and laboratory analysis, and sampling techniques.

Registration for the 2009 VRAP training workshops is requested. Please RSVP no later than 3 days in advance of the training workshop you plan on attending.

For more information, and to register for a workshop, please contact: Jen Drociak, VRAP Coordinator, at or (603) 271-0699 or jen.drociak@des.nh.gov.
