DES hosts Public Meeting regarding the Public Health
Assessment of Ambient Air Quality of Claremont NH

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services’ Environmental Health Program (EHP) will host a public meeting on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Claremont Senior Center located at 5 Acer Heights Road, Claremont. EHP staff will present the findings of the draft Public Health Assessment of Ambient Air Quality of Claremont, N.H. EHP conducted the study and prepared the report under its cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

The draft Public Health Assessment was released on March 20, 2009. The public comment period extends until May 8, 2009. Following the presentation EHP staff will be available for questions. The questions will be listed and answered anonymously in the final version of the Public Health Assessment.

The mission of the Environmental Health Program is to review environmental and health data and make recommendations to protect public health. A public health assessment is our most comprehensive level of analysis of potential environmental impacts on public health and is reviewed and approved by state and federal public health experts.

The Public Health Assessment can be accessed on the NH Department of Environmental Services’ website at http://des.nh.gov/ under “What’s New,” or you can e-mail eric.abrams@des.nh.gov to request a copy or provide comments. For more information contact Eric Abrams at (603) 271-5870. Copies of the report are also available in the Claremont Library.
