State Announces Its Decision on Bethlehem Landfill

CONCORD, NH – The NH Department of Environmental Services (DES) announced today that it has approved the application of North Country Environmental Services Inc. (NCES) for modification of its permit for the NCES Landfill located on Trudeau Road in Bethlehem. The application sought to modify the design and location of Phase II of the company’s Stage IV solid waste landfill. The approved design change provides for approximately one million cubic yards of previously-approved capacity to be constructed over the top of Stages I, II and III of the existing landfill. The privately-owned commercial landfill accepts municipal solid waste from a variety of New Hampshire towns and businesses, and from out of state.

DES held a public hearing on the application in June, and accepted written public comment through July 27, 2010. A copy of the approval and a detailed response to public comment is posted on the DES website at the following link http://des.nh.gov/organization/divisions/waste/swmb/permitapp_ncesl.htm.
