DES Issues Decision on Final Operating Level for Lake Waukewan
Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) has issued a final notice of operating level for the Lake Waukewan Dam (Dam # 155.01) in Meredith, NH. Based on the findings and conclusions of a Lake Level Investigation, DES has determined that a summer recreational level of 540.00 feet on Lake Waukewan is protective of the ecology of both Lake Waukewan and Lake Winona. The decision also requires an annual winter drawdown to elevation 538.5 feet to reduce the risk of flooding of shorefront property on the lakes during the early spring.
A copy of the decision is available on DES’s website at www.des.nh.gov, search the A to Z list for Dam Safety and Maintenance, listed under Hot Topics. For more information regarding this decision, please contact Jim Gallagher, Administrator of the DES Dam Bureau at 603 271-1961.
