New Hampshire Green Slopes
Idling Reduction Campaigns at NH Ski Facilities
NHPPP partnered with the Granite Sate Clean Cities Coalition on a workshop entitled “Reducing Emissions One Engine at a Time.” One topic covered was the importance of encouraging idling reduction at ski areas. Below are the presentations given at the workshop pertaining to idling reduction.
Resulting from the Workshop, many facilities adopted an idling reduction policy. Before the workshop only three facilities had an idling reduction policy in place. Since the 2007 Workshop, the facilities below have continued or adopted a plan to reduce their carbon footprint through idling reduction.

Upon tallying the numbers from the Green Slopes Pre-Workshop Questionnaire, we figured that throughout the 14 facilities there is an average of 25 diesel vehicles that idle for 6 hours a day over a three-month ski season. If each of these facilities implements the anti-idling policy and curbs the idling of these vehicles, we figured that 110 lbs. of particulate matter, 4,018 lbs. of nitrogen oxides and 282,743 lbs. of carbon dioxide will not be emitted into the air during that 90-day period.
