Mercury in Household Products
Mercury is found in many household products that consumers may not be aware of. Consumers can help keep mercury out of the environment and thereby decrease their exposure to mercury:
- Avoid buying products containing mercury!
- Dispose of mercury-containing products appropriately.
- Ask about your local transfer station's policy on removal of switches in appliances.
- Conserve energy. Utility combustors release mercury as they burn coal and oil for energy.
