Federal Boiler Rule
Over 10,000 industrial, commercial and institutional boilers are operating in New Hampshire. These boilers release air pollution including particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). The EPA published rules to address emissions from oil, biomass, and coal-fired boilers and process heaters.

The rules set emission limits, work practice standards, emission reduction measures, and management practices for boilers based on location (major vs. area source), age (new vs. existing) and type of fuel burned. The date a boiler commenced construction or reconstruction dictates if it is considered new or existing. For these rules, the date is June 4, 2010.
