- Unlined Landfills – The Hazardous Waste Remediation Bureau oversees site investigation and groundwater permitting requirements associated with the closure of unlined landfills in the state. The landfill closure process begins with a site investigation following criteria outlined in Env-Or 600, Contaminated Sites Management Rules, which provides the basis for closure design. The ongoing water quality monitoring portion is managed through issuance of a Groundwater Management Permit.
The engineering design requirements and overall closure process is managed by the Solid Waste Management Bureau.
- Lined Landfills - The Hazardous Waste Remediation Bureau oversees groundwater quality at lined landfills in accordance with Env-Or 700, Groundwater Release Detection Permits, and with ongoing groundwater monitoring managed through issuance of a Groundwater Release Detection Permit.
Operational and design issues are managed by the Solid Waste Management Bureau.
