The purpose of the Unlined Municipal Landfill and Incinerator Closure grants is to reimburse municipalities 20 percent of eligible capital costs associated with landfill and/or incinerator closures. These costs include:
- Hydrogeological elements.
- Engineering investigation and design.
- Construction of closure elements in accordance with plans and specifications approved by DES pursuant to the New Hampshire Solid Waste Rules.
- Construction supervision.
Eligible costs do not include land acquisition (except for land which is necessary to the physical elements of closure), administrative, legal and fiscal costs, nor costs for post-closure monitoring and maintenance.
PLEASE NOTE: As a result of budget reductions, DES will be unable to process or issue any new landfill or incinerator grants through the current biennium (Fiscal Years 2010 and 2011). DES will continue to pay scheduled landfill closure grant payments associated with grant applications previously approved by the Governor and Executive Council.
