Grants to municipalities help manage the cost associated with landfill and/or incinerator closures. Grants reimburse municipalities 20 percent of eligible capital costs, which can include:
- Hydrogeological elements.
- Engineering investigation and design.
- Construction of closure elements in accordance with plans and specifications approved by DES pursuant to the New Hampshire Solid Waste Rules.
- Construction supervision.
Eligible costs do not include land acquisition (except for land which is necessary to the physical elements of closure), administrative, legal and fiscal costs, nor costs for post-closure monitoring and maintenance.
PLEASE NOTE: DES will be unable to process or issue any new landfill or incinerator grants during Fiscal Years 2012 and 2013. DES is continuing to pay scheduled landfill closure grant payments associated with grant applications previously approved by the Governor and Executive Council.
In addition, since no new landfill or incinerator grants will be issued in Fiscal Years 2012 or 2013, DES will NOT hold annual public hearings for the Fiscal Year 2012 or 2013 Funding Priority Lists.
