Solid Waste Permitting and Design Review Section
Solid Waste Wood Ash Certification

Purpose
To certify ash from the combustion of clean wood for distribution and beneficial use in agricultural applications.

Applicability
Wood ash certification applies to any person distributing and using wood ash for agricultural land application in New Hampshire. It does not apply to persons using wood ash from their household wood stove(s) for agricultural land application.

Env-Sw 1700 Requirements for Land Application of Wood Ash

Application
The generator of wood ash to be land applied must provide information in writing to the Solid Waste Permitting and Design Review Section according to Env-Sw 1705 (see Env-Sw 1700 Requirements for Land Application of Wood Ash).

Fee
No application fee.

Processing Time
Typically 30 days after the application is deemed complete.

Term/Renewal
A certification will remain valid provided the holder of the certification complies with the terms of the written certification and with Env-Sw 1000.

Modification/Amendments
Notification of changes must be submitted in writing to the Solid Waste Permitting and Design Review Section prior any change(s) to the application upon which the certification was issued or amended.

Transferability
Notification of transfer must be submitted in writing to the Solid Waste Permitting and Design Review Section prior any transfer.

Appeals
Any person aggrieved by a final decision can appeal to the Waste Management Council in accordance with RSA 21-O:9.

More Information
If strict compliance with a particular rule would cause a hardship to the certificate holder or result in an adverse effect on the environment or public health and safety, a waiver to the particular rule may be granted. The applicant must complete an Application for WaiverMicrosoft Word Symboland submit any supporting documentation.
