Dam Removal and River Restoration Program
Dam Removal Permit

Purpose
Selective dam removal can eliminate a public safety hazard, relieve a dam owner’s financial and legal burdens and restore a river to a healthier, free-flowing condition.

Applicability
Applies to any person who seeks to remove a dam.

Fee
There is no fee for the Dam Removal Attachment to Wetlands Bureau Standard Dredge and Fill ApplicationMicrosoft Word Symbol. Fees, administered by the Wetlands Bureau, vary with the type of standard dredge and fill application, and are described in Fee Schedule for NHDES Wetlands Permit Applications and Notifications (Effective July 1, 2007).

Processing Time
Typically within 60 days upon receipt of a complete application.

Term/Renewal
Term is five years.

Modification/Amendments
Minor modifications may be requested in writing to the Dam Bureau and Wetlands Bureau.

Transferability
Non-transferable.

Appeals
Any person aggrieved by a final decision can appeal the decision to the Water Council in accordance with Env-WC 200 or the Wetlands Council in accordance with RSA 482-A:10.
