PUBLIC GOVERNMENT BUSINESS A to Z LIST

Issued Large Groundwater Withdrawal Permits

All documents have been saved in Adobe Acrobat Reader Adobe Acrobat Reader Symbol format.

The following is a list of large groundwater withdrawal permits issued by DES pursuant to RSA 485-C:21, Approval for Large Groundwater Withdrawals for withdrawals from groundwater of 57,600 gallons or more of water in any 24-hour period from a well or wells installed after July 1998. Large groundwater withdrawals from a well or wells installed prior to August 1, 1998 do not require a large groundwater withdrawal permit, nor are they subject to withdrawal limits, and are therefore not listed below. However, any water user using in excess of 20,000 gallons of water per day (averaged over any 7-day period), or more than 600,000 gallons of water (over any 30-day period), should be registered with and reporting their water use to the New Hampshire Water Use Registration and Reporting Program. Please contact the Water Use Registration and Reporting Program for information about obtaining water use data reported by registered water users.

Notes:

1 The ‘Permitted Withdrawal Volume’ provided in the tables above represents the maximum withdrawal volume allowed under the permit holder’s large groundwater withdrawal permit. However, many of the permits issued are “floating” or “variable” permits in that the withdrawal volume allowed at a given time is conditional upon observations within the permit holder’s monitoring network (e.g., groundwater levels in nearby wells, etc.), or prevailing environmental conditions in the vicinity of the withdrawal (e.g., amount of precipitation, flow measurements in a nearby stream, etc.). When such a condition is encountered, the permitted withdrawal volume is incrementally reduced and the water use reporting frequency is commonly modified to ensure compliance. The specific conditions and monitoring criteria within individual permits should be reviewed for further details.

2 In some cases, the date of approval of a source(s) as a community production well or a groundwater source of bottled water may be different than the issue date of the large groundwater withdrawal permit. Please contact the Large Groundwater Withdrawal Permitting Program for the issue date of a specific source approval.

3 Dual purpose large groundwater withdrawal permit issued for both community water supply and bottled water production.

4 Per Env-Dw 303.21(f), approval of this source(s) for use in the production of bottled water has lapsed because bottled water has not been produced from the source(s) for a period of 5 years from the date of source approval.

5 This groundwater withdrawal is reported as being operational and is a registered and reporting water user; however, the volume of groundwater currently being withdrawn is below the large groundwater withdrawal volume threshold of 57,600 gallons per day.

Status:

  • Active means the permit holder has started withdrawing groundwater from their permitted source(s) and that corresponding water use data should be available from the New Hampshire Water Use Registration and Reporting Program. Please contact the Water Use Registration and Reporting Program for information about obtaining water use data reported by registered water users.
  • Not Active means that, per DES’ understanding or direct inspection, the permit holder has not started withdrawing groundwater from their permitted source(s).
