Source Water Protection Strategy
The Source Water Protection Strategy (formerly CSGWPP) is a process to continually improve the protection of New Hampshire's groundwater and the state's surface water sources of public water supplies. The strategy involves state, federal, local, and regional agencies and other stakeholders in identifying and prioritizing issues and work tasks in order to improve the comprehensiveness, effectiveness, efficiency, and coordination of protection efforts.

In 1994, DES began implementation of a five-year groundwater protection work plan, developed and carried out with several partner organizations, to improve understanding and protection of the state's groundwater resources. The first work plan was completed and in 1999 a process was begun to define the critical next steps in safeguarding groundwater resources as well as surface water sources of public drinking water. The most recent strategy and the work group committees that are addressing different aspects of source water protection can be found below.
