To ensure that new small production wells will be able to supply an adequate amount of water that meets drinking water quality standards for small community water systems.
All new and existing small community water systems that plan to utilize a new small production well, an unapproved existing small production well, a replacement small production well, or rehabilitate an existing small production well (deepened or hydrofractured) must obtain approval from DES. A small production well is a well that produces a permitted production volume of less than 57,600 gallons in any 24-hour period.

There is a 30-day maximum review time for each complete submission.
Final approval expires four years from the original approval date.
Modifications and amendments are allowed prior to final approval. After final approval modifications and amendments are treated as new applications.
