Public Education for Lead Exceedance

On August 2, 2002, revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule, Env-Ws 381, took effect. Changes were made to delivery methods and contents of the educational material required for an exceedance of the lead action level. Water systems with a population of less than 500 no longer have to do Public Service Announcements or submit material to newspapers. Water systems with a population of 501 to 3,300 are no longer required to do Public Service Announcements and may request in writing to be exempt from submission to newspapers. Non-transient non-community systems may use e-mail in combination with posting as long as all persons on the water system are provided with the information. For details regarding this portion of the rule please check Administrative Rules on our Web site and see Env-Ws 381.14.
