Water Resources Plan Process

To support the Legislature’s statutory Water Resources Committee in its efforts to develop a comprehensive water resources plan, DES has developed a Water Resources Primer to inform policy makers and residents about the state’s water resources and the challenges of sustainably managing them. The primer’s lead author is DES, but the document was significantly influenced and improved by the contributions of many stakeholders and experts. DES is following up the publication of the primer with a series of public information meetings in cooperation with stakeholders (see Education/Outreach). Other early steps in the State Water Plan process include a survey of state and local policy makers (see Publications), and the development of information regarding current and future water demand (see Partnerships). In addition to the work of the Water Resources Committee, a number of other water-related planning efforts are underway at DES, in legislative committees, or by nonprofit groups.
