The New Hampshire Department of Transportation's role in Federal Storm Water Program (Phase II) in New Hampshire:
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) is required to meet the requirements of NPDES Phase II that include:
- Construction
- Industrial Activities
- Small MS4
The NHDOT's operations include both large scale road construction, currently addressed in Phase I, and smaller maintenance construction projects that will now be included under Phase II.
NHDOT maintenance patrol facilities, maintenance garages, and fuel distribution sites meet the criteria as defined in the Multi-Sector General Permit, Sector P for Industrial Activities. NHDOT has developed, and is in the process of implementing, a comprehensive program to meet the requirements for these facilities.
Department maintained highways, and associated drainage, are located within the boundaries of the 45 communities currently designated as small MS4s.
