New Hampshire Stormwater Manual
Note: Please check this webpage frequently for any changes or updates to the manual.

The New Hampshire Stormwater Manual was developed as a planning and design tool for the communities, developers, designers and members of regulatory boards, commissions, and agencies involved in stormwater programs in New Hampshire.

The manual is intended to be a "living" document and will be updated as new information becomes available. The revision number of the most recent version is included on the title page and the footer on each left-hand page.

In 2009, DES will be convening a workgroup of interested stakeholders to review the proposed antidegradation requirements described in Volume 1. The workgroup will finalize the requirements for meeting the antidegradation provisions and the procedure for DES review of proposed activities. The manual will be updated to incorporate the requirements at the completion of the workgroup.

The manual is issued in three volumes:

Hard copies of The NH Stormwater Manual volumes may be ordered through the DES Public Information and Permitting Unit. To order, please contact them at (603) 271-2975 or info@des.nh.gov . The fees for hard copies are: Volume 1, $10; Volume 2, $14; and Volume 3, $12.

Volume 1: Stormwater and Antidegradation presents an overview of New Hampshire’s stormwater program together with related federal program requirements, describes New Hampshire’s antidegradation provision (Env-Wq 1708) with respect to controlling water quality impacts due to stormwater discharges, and provides an introduction to the non-structural and structural measures for managing stormwater.

Volume 2: Post-Construction Best Management Practices Selection and Design presents a detailed description of the structural BMPs applicable for use in New Hampshire for the prevention, control, and treatment of stormwater.

Volume 3: Erosion and Sediment Controls During Construction presents a selection of practices applicable during the construction of projects to prevent adverse impacts to water resources as a result of land-disturbance activities.

Hard copies of The NH Stormwater Manual volumes are also available to order through the DES Public Information and Permitting Unit
