Sampling Equipment Needs

VRAP has a limited number of sampling equipment "kits" available to loan to volunteer monitoring groups upon advanced request. However, groups are encouraged to invest in their own equipment for long-term monitoring. Typically, a volunteer monitor group will need the following sampling equipment and supplies to collect VRAP samples:

Turbidity

  • 1.0 NTU Standard
  • 10.0 NTU Standard
  • DI Blank (0.0 NTU Standard)
  • Sample Vial
  • Turbidity Meter
  • Extra 9V Battery

pH

  • pH Electrode Storage Solution
  • pH Electrode Filling Solution
  • 4.0 pH Buffer
  • 6.0 pH Buffer
  • 7.0 pH Buffer
  • pH Meter & Electrode Probe
  • Extra 9V or AAA batteries

Dissolved Oxygen/Temperature

  • Zero DO H20 Dissolved Oxygen Standard
  • Extra DO Membranes and Membrane Solution
  • DO/Temperature Meter
  • Extra AA Batteries

Specific Conductance

  • 200 mS Conductivity Standard (or Other Standard)
  • Conductivity Meter
  • Extra AA Batteries

Other Supplies

  • Bucket & Rope Coil
  • Clipboard
  • Cooler & Ice Packs (If sampling for laboratory parameters)
  • Deionized (DI) Water Bottle/Water
  • Field Data Sheets
  • Kimwipes
  • Pencils & Pens (Pencils will write in wet weather)
  • Permanent Marker
  • Plastic Sample/Laboratory Bottles (If sampling for laboratory parameters)
  • Small Plastic Sample Container (for turbidity and pH)
