Fat, oil and grease (FOG) management is an ever-growing concern for both solid waste facility operators and wastewater treatment plant operators. Issues surround both “brown grease,” which is regulated in New Hampshire as septage, and “yellow grease,” which is regulated as a solid waste. One innovative approach to FOG management relies on the inter-relationship between solid waste management and wastewater treatment in which yellow grease is collected and converted to biodiesel. The result is less grease discharged to sewers helping to prevent sewer overflows. Other collection programs include recycling and rendering. Learn about technology that turns FOG into GOLD!
