Partners to Launch Formal Collaboration Against Invasive Plant Species
Event May 20 at the Great Bay Discovery Center in Greenland Greenland, NH – The New Hampshire Coastal Program at the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, and other partner organizations will launch an exciting partnership to control invasive plants at an event scheduled for May 20, 2008. The partnership will focus on plants that are not native to New Hampshire that aggressively degrade the quality of our lands and waters. The event will provide information on the Coastal Watershed Invasive Plant Partnership (CWIPP), a group of state, federal and nongovernmental organizations committed to protecting our coastal lands from these destructive plants. See a hands-on demonstration of an invasive plant control technique. Be a part of the ceremony, where 11 signatories will use Phragwrites, a locally made pen made from the stalk of one of our most prolific coastal invaders, common reed (Phragmites australis), to sign the official agreement that will formally begin this partnership. Photo opportunities and interviews with invasive species control professionals will be available. Information regarding the CWIPP Kickoff Celebration is below:
Parking at the Center is limited. Some additional parking is available at the Depot Station before the railroad tracks on Depot Road. Carpooling is encouraged.
