Project WET Curriculum & Activity Guide
This 500+ page water education guide contains over 90
educational activities for K-12 students. These activities were designed
by educators to be hands-on, easy to use, and fun and to meet the needs
of many different learning styles. Project WET activities promote critical
thinking and problem-solving skills and help provide young people with
the knowledge and experience they will need to make prudent decisions regarding
water issues. The guide is only available by completing a six-hour workshop.
Interactive Lake Ecology (ILE)
A four- to six-week lake ecology curriculum developed
by limnologists at DES in conjunction with a Concord school teacher. The
program uses a hands-on approach to aid students in grades 5 through 8
in discovering lake ecosystems and understanding complex environmental
systems. A student workbook and teacher guide are available,

New Hampshire’s Groundwater: Clean Drinking Water for
Your Future
A slide set package including 29 color slides, a speaking
outline, background materials, a map, and poster. The package details what
groundwater is, how it relates to the water cycle, how it can become contaminated,
and what can be done to prevent contamination. The package can be purchased
from DES for $25 or borrowed from DES (call 271-4071) or your local county
UNH Cooperative Extension office for a limited time period.
Composting at New Hampshire Schools: A ‘How to’ Guide
A classroom guide, developed by DES and the Governor’s
Recycling Program, intended to provide users with background information
to help decide if they want to start composting, as well as how to set
up, operate and promote a school composting project. The activities in
the guide are correlated to the N.H. Science Curriculum Frameworks to aid
teachers in planning their lessons. For more information, contact 271-3712.
Identifying the Ecologically Sound Household
A compilation of information and activities to be used
for teaching source reduction, reuse, lifecycle analysis, and pollution
prevention concepts in the classroom. The guide addresses such questions
as "Why does our lifestyle lead to the generation of so much waste?" and
"How can the creation of the products we buy affect the environment?" For

Best Management Practices for Nonpoint Source Pollution:
A Guide for Citizens and Town Officials
A booklet that summarizes the causes of nonpoint source
pollution (contaminants that enter our water resources when water washes
across the surface of the land or infiltrates groundwater) and outlines
recommended practices for preventing or dealing with its occurrence. January, 2004 Edition

Various curriculum guides and interactive CD-ROMS are
available for air topics such as ozone, acid rain, air pollution, global

Pollution Prevention for Automotive Service Technicians-A Curriculum, 1996
This guide serves to inform secondary level students of health and safety issues
related to servicing today’s vehicles; the regulations that affect the automotive
service industry; opportunities for preventing pollution; and best management practices.
