Wastewater Certification Committee

Tasked with oversight and review of wastewater treatment plant operators in New Hampshire.

The wastewater operator "Certification Committee” is defined in RSA 485-A and Env-Wq 304.31. The Certification Committee is made up of three persons designated by the Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, and two persons elected by the New Hampshire Water Pollution Control Association (NHWPCA), who serve as the review committee for certification of wastewater treatment plant operators.

This committee is tasked with:

  • Reviewing applications for wastewater certification.
  • Making determinations on petitions for waivers to Env-Wq 304 Rules.
  • Conduct interviews for operators around Grade 2 certification.

Exams are scheduled on the 1st Wednesday of June and December each year. Applications must be received at least 6 weeks preceding the date of the exam.

Wastewater Operator Certification

Individuals may apply to take an exam to become a new certified wastewater operator or increase their grade through an exam. Exams for certification are held each spring and fall. If you are certified in another state you may be certified through reciprocity up to grade III.
