2023 Leak Detection Survey Grant Results
The Leak Detection Survey Grant had another productive year in 2023. Through a competitive bid process, New England Water Distribution Services, LLC was hired by NHDES to complete leak detection surveys at 47 community water systems. The systems were a mix of different types—from condominium associations to manufactured home parks to municipal systems—and ranged in size from serving 30 people to 44,000 people. In total, over 750 miles of systems’ distribution networks were surveyed. Forty-six leaks were found, which combined were estimated to be leaking at least 500 gallons per minute or 732,000 gallons per day. That’s enough water to fill approximately 1.5 Olympic-sized swimming pools per day!
The Leak Detection Survey Grant application period is typically open from early June to late July every year. All community water systems in New Hampshire are eligible for the grant, provided there are maps of the distribution systems. The applicants selected for funding receive a free leak detection survey by a professional leak detection firm. Please see the Leak Detection Survey Grant’s webpage for more information.
